Be sure to visit the Lost Trotting Parks Display at the Northern Maine Fair. Sponsored by Thompson -- Hamel, LLC and Lynox, Inc., a displayed titled, "The Lost Trotting Parks of Aroostook County," will be shown. Trotting parks once existed in Van Buren, Ashland, Caribou, Fort Fairfield, Houlton, and Crystal. Today trotting events still take place in Presque Isle at the Northern Maine Fair Grounds. Thirty storyboards will be displayed providing images and text on the lost trotting parks. More research needs to be done. We hope that this display will be a motivation for renewed interest in County folks taking another look at Aroostook's history tied to the age, "When the Horse was King." The following storyboard is an example of what you will find on display at the Fair.

The President's Pace -- Scarborough Downs 1987
Over the winter I worked with Jean Emerson, editor/publisher, of the Northeast Harness News to implement a plan to share with harness racing enthusiasts the history of the industry between 1980 and 1995. We are still working on strategies, however, we thought readers of the Lost Trotting Parks Blog might enjoy a sample of the history provided through the fifteen years of issues of the Northeast Harness News. Here is an example: The 1987 President's Pace at Scarborough Downs!
